Hello, everyone! Speaking of specialty in Osaka...... I would pick out okonomiyaki! When I visited one of my friends in Osaka, we made it together and I really enjoyed it! It’s Saori from Japanese Snacks Republic!
This kind of food made with flour is usually famous in Kansai region (south-west side of Japan) but today, what we’ll be featuring is the one which originally came from Kanto region (south-east side of Japan)!

Whaaaat?????? Monjayaki originally came from Kanto region??
Yep. How it looks and how we make are similar to okonomiyaki that you mentioned, so many people think it’s also from Kansai region.

In fact, it’s originally from Kanto region! What is Monjayaki?

Monjayaki is one of the dishes in Japan where you make batter with flour and water and fry it on the pan. It’s similar to okonomiyaki but it’s runnier than okonomiyaki since more water is added.
They say monjayaki was originally made because people in Kanto region tried to copy okonomiyaki, ending up becoming too watery. But then, children started to eat while enjoying mixing it up. This is said to be how people started to eat monjayaki.
It has ingredients similar to okonomiyaki, but the major ones are vegetables and seafood. Many people also like to put the ones that have strong flavor and texture such as mentaiko (spicy cod roe), mochi (rice cake), cheese, kimuchi, and etc.
You know what? Every time I make monjayaki, I’m not really confident if I’m making it right since it becomes so watery and runny. It tastes good though.
If it’s good, it’s all good. There is the best way of cooking it but it’s all good as long as you put your favorite ingredients and enjoy eating it.

Yep. And, guess what? The size is a little bigger than the previous one of the Jagariko series!
