Hello, everyone~! My favorite flavor is Hokkaido Butter Potato!! (I love buttery taste a lot!) It’s Saori from Japanese Snacks Republic!

So today! We’ll be featuring one of the Japanese snacks most Japanese people often eat while in a relaxing time! It’s easy to pick and eat! It comes in a variety of flavors too! What’s more? It’s cheap! This is too familiar for all the Japanese people!! Here we go!!

What Is Jagariko (じゃがりこ）?

It’s one of the Japanese snacks produced by Calbee, Inc, whose main ingredient is potatoes. Once the potatoes are boiled, they make them finger-length sticks and deep-fry them. It comes with a convenient cup container.

With a variety of flavors which we can choose according to how you feel like eating, it’s become one of the classic Japanese snacks, loved by all-generation people in Japan.

The name of this snack originates from the fact (a true story), where the developer got a hint from one of his/her friend’s name, “Rikako-San”; “Jagaimo (potato in Japanese) + Rikako = Jagariko.”

Jagariko is the best. I love it a lot.

It’s just so good! Oh, do you remember that many people used to make potato salad from it by putting some hot water, making it soft. It was delicious too.

Wowww~~~~!!!! Yeah! We used to do that for sure!! Since Jagariko has some flavors already, this recipe went viral as one of the easy-to-make dishes with snacks!!

The standard flavors of Jagariko are salad, cheese and Hokkaido butter potato but Calbee releases some limited edition flavors from specific regions’ specialty flavors, such as plums or seaweed flavors so next time you come to Japan, try to find those types of Jagariko too!

I love a little salty cheese flavor too but my recommended flavor is Hokkaido butter potato which is the best combination of potato, butter and salt! It’s a different type of saltiness from the salad flavor~!!!
