For a Prosperous New Year! We also ate Soba Noodles, eaten with various wishes for the upcoming year!

boss/question
Saori, did you eat Toshikoshi Soba this year?
saori
Yes, I did! It was lightly seasoned, and I had it with some vegetables!
boss/smile
Toshikoshi Soba is eaten with wishes like 'may you live long,' inspired by the long noodles, and 'may you cut off bad ties forthe coming year,' due to the ease of biting through the soft noodles.

Wow! I thought it was eaten for warmth and because it's gentle on the stomach during the cold end-of-year parties!
boss
That's also a reason. Anyway, it's delicious, warm, and easy to eat. Topping it with tempura or vegetables is just the best!

saori/question
I also added leftover mochi and it was delicious...... But what's the difference between Oshiruko and Zenzai? Is it mochi in Oshiruko? Shiratama in Zenzai?
boss

From January 1st to 3rd! Enjoying Osechi, a Special Box Packed with Favorite and Auspicious Foods, is a New Year Tradition!

saori/smile
When it comes to New Year, it's all about Osechi, right~!! Our Osechi had fewer fish but was packed with lots of meat, a special version! It was filled with my family's favorite foods, and it was a very delicious and happy three days!
boss
Speaking of Osechi, it's a delicious assortment made at the end of the year to avoid cooking as much as possible from January 1st to 3rd. It's packed with festive side dishes and ingredients that families love. The contents vary by household, but it often includes traditional New Year ingredients that are considered to bring good fortune.

I got photos of the Osechi from Japanese Snacks Republic members...... Looking at them this way, there are quite a few ingredients in common, and it's interesting to see the unique ingredients each has!
boss
Right. Many people often include seafood, and since families sometimes gather with relatives, the contents can change depending on the household and the year. That's one of the interesting things about Osechi, how the lineup changes every year!

Ozoni, a warm soup with mochi and chicken base, is also a New Year's staple, isn't it~! I love Ozoni made with warm chicken soup, where the mochi gets a bit swollen and soft! It has a gentle flavor, warms the body, and is gentle on the stomach too~!
