First of all, Yubari Melon is a name for a red-fleshed melon variety that is produced in Yubari City, located in the northernmost part of Japan, Hokkaido.

Characteristics of Yubari Melon include its rich aroma, similar to liqueur, its deep sweetness, and its meltingly smooth texture. It is very carefully cultivated, and only those fruits that meet a sugar content of 10 degrees or more are shipped.

One drawback is that they don't keep well for a long time. This meant they weren't widely distributed outside of their production area in Hokkaido.
